課程概述

This course is designed to teach students at the Ph.D. program level. It will introduce various important subjects of horticultural crop physiology with topical research papers. The topics to be covered consist of 1) carbon metabolisms – photosynthesis, photorespiration, respiration, and photosynthate translocation of horticultural crops; 2) water and nutrient transport – stomatal physiology, transpiration and water relations, nutrient uptake, assimilation, and root physiology of horticultural crops; 3) interactions with abiotic and biotic factors – abiotic stress physiology, biotic and symbiotic interactions; and 4) growth and development of plant – phytohormones, seed dormancy and seed germination physiology, flowering physiology of horticultural crops

課程目標
This course will train students with independent and logical thinking to apply plant physiology theory in horticultural research and industry. Also, over the course, students will be developing English presentation and discussion skill sets in academic settings.
課程要求
Each week students will give 20-min of presentations and Q&A sessions about the papers regarding the topics they choose at the beginning of the semester. Students will be required to actively interact with presenters. The final presentation and the report will be about students’ own topics for Ph.D. dissertations.
